Text formatting and styling
Formatting for World and Character intros, openings, and model replies.
Where formatting works
World intros, Character intros, Chapter openings, and model replies all support formatting, with slightly different HTML and style limits. This guide collects the rules in one place. For sections, profile bars, and quotes, see World configuration → More formatting.
Write Markdown or permitted HTML straight into the box and select Preview to check the result. The first paragraph of an intro shows as plain text; formatting applies from the second paragraph on. Players’ own messages are displayed as plain text.
<details>
<summary>Contradictions in the file</summary>
<p>The photograph matches, but the address belongs to another woman.</p>
</details>Markdown
Supported features include headings, bold, italics, lists, quotes, horizontal rules, links, inline code, and code blocks.
Markdown images, pipe tables, and strikethrough are not currently supported. Use the permitted img, table, or s tags instead.
### Verification notes
**Address**: Does not match the home address the player provided.
- Verify the date of the photograph.
- Contact the restaurant staff on duty that night.
> Verify information before drawing conclusions.Allowed HTML
Only allowlisted HTML tags are supported: div, span, p, b, i, em, strong, u, s, br, hr, img, details, summary, h1–h4, ul, ol, li, blockquote, code, pre, table, thead, tbody, tr, td, th, and a.
Allowed attributes include href, src, alt, open, colspan, rowspan, and style. The class attribute is kept only in World and Character intros. Links and image sources must use HTTPS or relative paths.
Unsupported ordinary tags are generally removed while retaining their text. Dangerous content such as script, iframe, object, embed, form, input, svg, and math is removed entirely. Content cannot execute JavaScript.
Colors and styles
Inline style supports color, background-color, font-weight, font-style, font-size, text-align, text-decoration, letter-spacing, and opacity. Font sizes with units are clamped to 0.75–1.5 times the surrounding text size.
Inline margin, padding, border, position, and other properties outside the allowlist will not take effect as written.
World and Character intros can use style blocks with class names. A style block applies only to the paragraph or section it sits in, and accepts class selectors, not tag selectors such as body or @ rules. Openings and model replies remove style blocks and classes; use permitted inline styles there.
<p style="color: #c58c40; font-weight: bold;">Check the address in the file first.</p>Formatting in dialogue
Character dialogue uses a smaller inline tag set: b, i, em, strong, u, s, br, code, span, a, and img. Block tags do not retain full layouts inside dialogue.
Set the model’s output format
To request a response format, write the instructions in AI only. Players never see them.
You can specify structure, length, permitted content, and formatting, not just tone. State when each instruction applies and avoid instructions that conflict. Output remains subject to the rendering rules above.
When a turn verifies a new clue in the forged file, use details and summary tags at the end of the response to list evidence the player knows. Set the summary to “File clues.” Omit the block when there is no new clue, and do not reveal who planted the file before the player learns it.
